Twilight sedation, because it uses less anesthesia, is generally safer than general anesthesia in most patients. There is less complications and discomfort like nausea after surgery.
Lightly sedated patient recover from anesthesia much quicker.
They return to function normally only after a few hours, as oppose to days that can happen with general anesthesia.
Nausea is also minimized.
General anesthesia can lead to complications in a subset of patients, such as blood clots in the leg. This is uncommon but can be lift threatening.
Twilight sedation allow patients to breathe on their own, reducing the risk of respiratory issues.
Patient is relaxed and comfortable but remains responsive to the surgeon's instructions. This allows the surgeon and patient to work together to obtain their desired results.
