Meet Our Surgical Nursing Team
Intro:
Our surgical nurses are among the most experienced in West Texas — decades of perioperative care behind every case at our Quad A–accredited facility.
Jennifer Johnson, BSN, RN:
Jennifer Johnson, BSN, RN, brings 25 years of nursing experience to our surgical team. For 24 years (1997–2021), she served at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis, NM — working across labor & delivery, mother/baby, newborn nursery, pediatrics, pre-op, PACU, and the float pool, and directly in the operating room as an OR circulator. She also served as Nurse Manager, leading and mentoring nursing staff, and later traveled as a pre-op/PACU nurse with Medely. Jennifer earned her RN diploma from the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Lubbock (1996) and her BSN from West Texas A&M University (1998), and holds current certifications in CPR, ACLS, PALS, and NRP.
Lisa Leal-Sanchez, RN:
Lisa Leal-Sanchez, RN, brings more than four decades of nursing experience across Lubbock's hospitals and surgery centers. She began as an LVN at St. Mary of the Plains Hospital (1984–1996), then served as Staff RN at Covenant Heart Institute (1999–2005) and as on-call Staff RN, Relief Charge Nurse, and ICU Charge Nurse at Highland Medical Center (2001–2005). Her surgical care experience includes PACU staffing at Covenant Surgical Center (2008–2010), intraoperative care as a clinic RN with the Center for Interventional Pain under Dr. Michel Oliva (2010–2012), and PACU nursing at High Plains Surgery Center (2012–2016). She has led nursing teams as Director of Nurses at Cuidado Casero Home Health (2005–2008) and as Director of Patient Services and Alternate Administrator at Essential Home Health (2016–2023), and served on Texas's emergency monoclonal antibody infusion team during COVID-19. She currently also staffs Lubbock Surgery Center and South Plains Rehab.
