Accelerate Recovery with Nanofat Microneedling & HBOT

Updated: Mar 24

The Modern Approach to Post-Surgical Care and Healing

We tell our patients that surgery is only half of the transformation; the other half is how your body responds to it.

At FacePLUS+ | Plastic Surgery Institute, we don't rely on luck for healing. Instead, we use advanced biotechnology to actively steer the recovery process. This includes treatments like nanofat microneedling and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT).

By combining the regenerative power of your cells with the life-giving properties of pure oxygen, we can significantly accelerate healing, reduce scarring, and improve the final aesthetic quality of your skin.

If you're investing in a surgical transformation, you deserve a recovery protocol that protects that investment.

Understanding Nanofat Microneedling?

To understand nanofat microneedling, we must first clarify what 'nanofat' is. Unlike the fat grafting used to add volume to cheeks or lips, nanofat isn't a filler. It's a liquid mixture of your cells.

We take a small amount of your fat and emulsify it (break it down). This process removes the bulky fat cells and leaves behind the 'liquid gold,' the Stromal Vascular Fraction (SVF). What’s left is a fluid rich in stem cells and growth factors that are the powerhouse of tissue regeneration.

How It Works

We then use a medical-grade microneedling device to create thousands of microscopic channels in your skin. We apply the nanofat directly to these channels.

The microneedling triggers a natural repair response, while the nanofat delivers a potent dose of regenerative cells deep into the dermis.

The Result of Nanofat Microneedling

  • Improved Texture. It smooths fine lines and crepey skin.

  • Scar Reduction. It reorganizes collagen fibers to make incisions heal flatter and fainter.

  • Radiance. It boosts blood supply to the skin, creating a healthy glow.

The Role of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)

Oxygen is the fuel your cells use to repair damage. After surgery, swelling can compress tiny blood vessels (capillaries), temporarily reducing oxygen flow to the healing skin. This 'hypoxia' slows down healing.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy recovery works by placing you in a pressurized chamber where you breathe 100% pure oxygen. The pressure dissolves oxygen directly into your blood plasma, allowing it to bypass restricted blood vessels and flood tissues with vital energy.

Why We Recommend HBOT for Recovery

  • Reduces Inflammation. It constricts dilated vessels while delivering oxygen, which reduces swelling.

  • Antimicrobial Action. High oxygen levels help kill bacteria, drastically reducing infection risk.

  • Accelerates Closure. Wounds and incisions tend to seal and strengthen faster in an oxygen-rich environment.

  • Promotes Angiogenesis. It stimulates the growth of new blood vessels, ensuring the skin remains healthy and pink.

  • Improved Healing. It speeds up the clearance of bruising and reduces significant swelling, getting you back to your life sooner.

Combining Therapies for Post-Surgical Healing Treatments

We often combine these treatments because they address different aspects of recovery.

  • Nanofat microneedling provides the 'seeds' (stem cells) for regeneration.

  • HBOT provides the 'fertilizer' (oxygen) to ensure those seeds thrive.

For our deep plane facelift or complex reconstruction patients, this combination is particularly powerful. The post-surgical healing treatments work together to ensure incisions heal almost invisibly and that the skin draped over your new contours looks youthful and vibrant.

Are You a Good Candidate?

While almost any surgical patient can benefit, these treatments are particularly effective for:

  • Facelift and Necklift Patients. It can minimize the visibility of incisions around the ears and hairline.

  • Revision Cases. If you have scar tissue from previous surgeries, nanofat is incredible for softening old scars.

  • Complex Reconstructions. Such as flap surgeries where blood supply is critical.

  • Skin Quality Seekers. Those wanting to improve texture, fine lines, and sun damage alongside their surgery.

  • Smokers. Smoking restricts blood flow. HBOT can help counteract this risk (though we still need you to stop smoking before the surgery).

  • Thin Skin. Patients with thin, delicate skin benefit immensely from the thickening and strengthening effect of nanofat microneedling.

FAQs About Nanofat Microneedling and HBOT Recovery

Is nanofat microneedling painful?

No. We perform this procedure under local anesthesia or sedation. You'll feel vibration from the microneedling device, but it's generally very well tolerated.

How soon after surgery can I do HBOT?

We often recommend starting HBOT as early as 24 to 48 hours after surgery. The sooner we can flood the tissue with oxygen, the faster the swelling subsides.

Will nanofat make my face look chubby?

Not at all. The fat cells are emulsified (broken down) before we inject them. We're not transferring volume; we're transferring the regenerative biological material found in the fat.

How many sessions are needed?

  • For nanofat microneedling, one session during surgery is often sufficient, though some patients opt for a second treatment 6 months later for skin quality.

  • For HBOT, we typically recommend a package of 3 to 5 sessions, depending on the extent of the surgery.

However, Dr. Mo Boonipat will customize this based on the extent of your surgery and your body’s natural healing rate.

Is this safe for all skin types?

Yes. Since nanofat uses your own tissue, there's zero risk of an allergic reaction. It's safe and effective for patients of all skin tones and types.

Can this treat old acne scars?

Yes. While we use it for surgical recovery, nanofat microneedling is one of the most effective treatments available for smoothing out old, pitted acne scars and improving skin texture.
